Conscious Cleaning

My blog is called Conscious Living because for me it’s important to me to not only exercise in a conscious manner but to live in a more conscious and present manner. It helps me make better choices that not only have a better effect on me and how I feel/interact with others but also on others and our environment.

In honor of Earth day coming up I wanted to share with you how I clean and keep green at home and in studio. I am convinced that these small things go a long way and if we all did small steps together we will go far!

Living Clean and Green at Home

Lomi

My newest obsession is my Lomi! It is an easy in home composting system that is very good looking and has different plans for composting. 2 of the 3 are quick and simply break down the food so it decomposes even faster in our landfills. The last mode creates a food for our plants! It’s great for us in our new apartment because we don’t have a garbage disposal and we can then feed our house plants. I plan to buy one for my Montauk house so I can feed my garden all summer long and reap even more

Biom Bio-degradeable Wipes

I got spammed by these on Instagram a few months ago and they are great! They are biodegradeable wipes that I can throw in my Lomi. If you don’t have a composting option at home they biodegrade in the trash in 14 days!

Bona Hardwood Floor Kit

I love this kit because it makes cleaning your floors super easy and most importantly the bottom is washable and re-suable! Single use products add up so fast and when it’s as easy as this it’s a no brainer to switch over.

Stasher Resuable Silicone Bags

I haven’t bought ziploc bags in years. Single use plastic is one of the number one things we can avoid to make a difference in our landfills. Not to mention save money as well. I have never had a problem with a Stasher leaking and I love them because they’re lightweight so when I pack snacks/food for work they’re light and easy to fold up and take home at the end of the day.

APP Reusable Shopping Tote

Be sure to carry this around with you each day for when you pick up things at the store and more. In NYC plastic bags aren’t allowed anymore but paper bags are. Save a tree and cary your own bag! I use my tote to bring my food for day and then reuse it throughout the day to pick up any items I need at home.

Living Clean and Green in the Studio

Puracy Multi Surface Cleaner Concentrate with Refillable Spray Bottles and Re-usable Wash Cloths

I love the Puracy brand. Their products are clean, they smell amazing without actually “smelling up the room” and you can buy their good looking refillable glass spray bottles. I pair them with reusable wash cloths to clean my equipment after workouts and it’s a seamless process that keeps my studio clean and most importantly excess plastic bottles and paper towels out of our landfills. The less single use items we have in our life the less our landfills will be ending up with.

Berkey Water Filter for your APP Water Bottles

Eliminating plastic drink bottles is one of the easiest ways to ease your carbon footprint. This being said, I can also understand being wary of the quality of our tap water. I recently purchased a Berkey Water Filter for my studio so I can have clean water on hand at all times for my Teaser Water Bottle I cary with me. The water tastes great and the filter looks very chic sitting on my counter in the studio.

Shark Steam Mop

Since my studio has bare feet and workouts happening on it’s floors, I want to make sure they’re not only clean but disinfected. I have a shark steam mop that not only cleans the floor but because of the hot steam disinfects them. This eliminates the need for single use products like Swiffer that also have toxic chemical smells that are bad for our air and endocrine system.

Plants!

Not only do plants look good in a space but they actually clean the air. One of my go to’s is a snake plant because they’re very easy to keep up, grow fast, and look great! Be sure to support your local florist or head to my dad’s shop Pierson’s for your order - they can help you order/ship wherever you are in the US!

Last but not least…

I in general always make my coffee at home and try to cook my own food and eliminate take out as much as I can. Not only is it healthier and will help you save money but if you think about all of the plastic lids and containers that are sent back to our landfills with to go items it’s really an upsetting number. If you need help with inspiration on what to cook, be sure to check out my other blogs with all kinds of recipe inspiration. Once you get in the groove of cooking and bringing your own meals to work, school, etc. you will never look back!
